Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley has 12 scholarship programs online this year for eligible students in Orange County.
Last year, the Community Foundations awarded nearly 225 local students with money to further their education. More than $250,000 in scholarships and awards were made from endowment funds held at the Community Foundations and through partnerships with area organizations.
Below is a list of scholarships available.
Mary Abdoo Fashion Memorial Scholarship — This scholarship is available to any resident of the Hudson Valley who is pursuing a career in fashion at Marist College.
Jennifer Coudrey Memorial Scholarship — Established by WRRV, the award will be given to a young Hudson Valley woman who shares Jen's positive attitude, desire to help others and determination to work hard pursuing a physical therapy career.
Doherty-Package Pavement Company Scholarship — Students continuing their education beyond high school, whose parents or guardians have been employed by Package Pavement Company Inc., Red Wing Properties Inc. or Stormville Trucking Inc. for at least five years are eligible to apply.
Lorien Niniel Kimlin Scholarship — This scholarship is available to students at either Dutchess Community College or Marist College who graduated from a Dutchess, Orange or Ulster county high school and who plan to study Spanish in Spain.
Miles of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation Scholarship — Scholarships are available to assist students who have been affected by breast cancer in some way.
Luigi and Elisa Panichi Memorial Scholarship — This scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors and students enrolled in accredited institutions whose parents or guardians are employed by Panichi Holding Corp., Royal Carting Service Co., Valley 82 Holding Corp. or Welsh Sanitation Service.
George A. and Catherine V. Quill Scholarship — This scholarship is intended for students who must apply themselves to prosper or those who can demonstrate financial need.Eligible students must be graduating high school seniors from Newburgh Free Academy.
Stanley J. Tarver Memorial Scholarship — This fund provides a scholarship to a graduate student of African descent — African-American or black person of another nationality — who is matriculating toward a doctorate or a masters in African history and/or culture and who has completed at least one year of graduate study at a U.S. college or university.
Kathleen H. Zwissler Memorial Scholarship — This scholarship is available to high school seniors and students enrolled in accredited institutions whose field of study is or will be in a business-related field and who work at or whose parents or guardians are employed by Adams Fairacre Farms, Inc.
In partnership with the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation, the following scholarships are also available:
Cosimo DiBrizzi Memorial Scholarship — This scholarship is available to of Mid-Hudson Valley residents pursuing a career at the Culinary Institute of America.
ENERGY Scholarship — This scholarship is available to Mid-Hudson Valley residents attending a college or university in the Hudson Valley who shows proven leadership in the community, is dedicated to community service and is pursuing an undergraduate degree in business. Applicants must be age 25 or younger by Sept. 1, 2011 to be eligible.
Eileen Hickey Nursing Scholarship — This scholarship is available to Mid-Hudson Valley residents pursuing a career in nursing at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh.
