Jennifer Nettles

Jennifer Nettles
Rihanna is performing at perhaps the most unlikely of places tonight (April 3), the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. The S&M singer was approached by Jennifer Nettles of the country duo Sugarland to perform a song calledCalifornia King Bed at the annual award ceremony celebrating the best of the year in country music.
Rihanna, may be one of the hottest R&B acts on the planet (S&M is currently No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart), but she seems pretty excited to have the chance to be out of her normal element. Rihanna tweeted:
Me and my boo Jennifer Nettles! This is SO much fun.
The question may be will a wider audience tune in to the ACM awards just to see what Jennifer Nettle and Rihanna can pull off in a duet?   The 2011 Academy of Country Music Awards airs tonight at 8 PM ET and ABC.

Martin Huang

Martin Huang
THE teen had gone to the Orchard Road clinic to get a scar on her thigh removed, and was told that photos had to be taken of her - without her underwear - before the operation.
Now, the 17-year-old, a minor who cannot be named, is suing well-known consultant plastic surgeon Martin Huang and the clinic for emotional distress and personal trauma.
In her suit, she claims the pictures taken include shots of her not wearing her underwear.
The student had gone to the clinic in November last year to have a scar removed from her upper left thigh.
She is seeking damages in the High Court through her mother Madam Chao Yung Tien, who is in her 40s, alleging lack of informed consent, assault and negligence.
The defendants, Dr Huang and the Specialist Surgery and Laser Centre where he is a director, are contesting the claims.

Selina Jen

Selina Jen
A few days ago, Father Jen and Selina's younger sister Kristen Jen accepted an interview on Shen Chun Hua Life Show. The host presented a letter Selina had secretly written to her father.
"My body is given by my parents; I'm not filial for injuring it," wrote Selina, whose words brought tears to everyone present.
Father Jen recalled the day he rushed to Shanghai after the accident. Apart from asking the doctor if Selina's face and internal organs were fine, he also posed an awkward question.
"Was her private part burnt? I'm worried it would affect her child-bearing. I had to think of Richard. Luckily the worst injuries were on her legs. Her voice and the part which I was worried about were fine," revealed Father Jen.
When asked what Selina did at the first instance when she was injured, Father Jen described his feelings as "unbelievable".
"Everyone knows that when you're burnt, you need to 'rinse, take off, submerge [in water], cover up and send [to hospital]. Before Selina was sent to the hospital in Shanghai, she was sent to a small hospital. During the four hours she was there, she called friends to help look for hospitals before walking to the toilet bare-footed to rinse her legs with water," said Father Jen.
When he was asked about Selina's relationship with Richard, Father Jen said after he saw how badly his daughter was burnt, he told Richard that he would agree if he wanted to cancel their wedding engagement.
"[He] doesn't have to accept all these, but he did. I now believe my daughter has found someone who would take care of her for the rest of her life. They would be together until they're old," said Father Jen.
He added that the wedding date would be left in the hands of the couple. However, it would not deviate too far from the actual date, which was Apr 1.

Cezanne's 172nd Birthday

Cezanne's 172nd Birthday
The search engine’s standard logo has been replaced with a still-life picture by the artist Paul Cezanne to commemorate his 172nd birthday.
The French Post Immpressionist artist, often credited with paving the way for the emergence of modern art, was born on 19 January 1908 in Aix-en-Provence in the South of France.
He departed radically from the Impressionists like Monet, Renoir and Degas and eventually evolved into early abstract painting. He rejected their philosophy of representation and created a new and subjective pictorial reality. His innovative style, use of perspective, composition and color came to have a profound influence on 20th century art. Speaking of the artist, Picasso once said: “My one and only master . . . Cezanne was like the father of us all”.
Although a prolific painter his work was only accepted once into the official Paris Salon whose jury rejected his submissions. In 1873 C├ęzanne exhibited in the famous show of the artists refused by the Salon, known as Salon des.
Refuses, which also included the works of Manet, Monet, and Pissarro. Critics, however, did not view the avante-garde works favorably.
Success eluded Cezanne for most of his life, but he has left a lasting legacy: the emergence of a unique artistic style.
In 1890 he developed diabetes and his life took a turn for the worse, marred by poor health and severe depression. On October 22, 1906 he died fro pneumonia at the age of 67.

Cabinet Reshuffle

Cabinet Reshuffle
When you hear a Cabinet reshuffle is happening after the government has been fighting corruption allegations for months and just weeks ahead of the all-important budget session, you expect to see something pretty major happen.
Here at India Real Time, we were left scratching our heads when the list of names was put up on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s website.
What happened? Anything? To us, it looks largely like a series of sideways movements. (That’s also what the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party was quick to say, after the announcement.)
Roads minister Kamal Nath went to Urban Development, while the occupant of that post, Jaipal Reddy, went to Petroleum and Natural Gas. Murli Deora, who was petroleum minister, went to corporate affairs. C.P Joshi replaced Mr. Nath as roads minister.
Mr. Nath’s move could be seen as a slight demotion—the minister came into the post with a lot of enthusiasm and vowed to get road construction up to 20 kilometers a day. Lately we haven’t heard that figure touted as often. When asked about that, Mr. Nath has suggested waiting for the complete figures at the end of the financial year on March 31.
However, if that means India considers urban development not-so-important, that’s a little worrying, considering the rate at which India is urbanizing and that cities are meant to be the main creator of jobs in the next 20 years.
Alternatively, might this be an elevation?
Shekhar Gupta, Indian Express editor-in-chief, said on NDTV that the urban development ministry was sitting on billions of dollars of urban renewal funds from a federal spending program begun in 2005 and that maybe Mr. Nath could use those to kickstart more city development.
Journalists searching for meaning in this reshuffle have also seized upon the splitting of the food and agriculture portfolio. Sharad Pawar retains Agriculture and Food Processing, while K.V. Thomas gets Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
Ahead of the shuffle, reports suggested that there’d be movement in the food portfolio after Mr. Pawar said there wasn’t a lot the government could do to control high vegetable prices.
India Real Time has previously suggested that India needs to reduce vegetable prices by improving production and reducing wastage by improving infrastructure. We’re not entirely sure how this split portfolio will help that situation.
The jolly green giant—Jairam Ramesh—remained as environment minister, a fact that was hardly in doubt but that may be depressing to some in corporate India that see his ministry as too tough on environmental regulations.
One top journalist suggested the reshuffle was driven largely by frustration by Mr. Singh over what he’s accomplished since his second term began after national elections in 2009—rather than by feeling so-and-so could really make a go of such-and-such portfolio. Or dropping so-and-so could send a strong message about corruption.
“This is a shuffling of the deck by a prime minister who’s getting impatient: ‘One and a half years I’ve been able to do nothing’,” said Mr. Gupta.

Dhobi Ghat Film Review

Dhobi Ghat Film Review
Dhobi Ghat is a well known place in Mumbai. The washers known locally as Dhobis work in open to wash the clothes from Mumbai’s hotels and hospitals. Kiran Rao has made a movie on the live of Dhobi Ghat and the Dhobis reveals that her movie is not just a typical piece of drama but her personal tribute to the city of her dreams.
Aamir Khan who himself is a top- notch filmmaker is also a part of her wife, Kiran Rao’s debut project. Aamir is the most bankable star and is known to lend his mind, body and soul to his ventures; this is the reason why he is still able to retain his charisma even after his two decade long career. And hard work, dedication and determination seem to be his better half’s success mantra too. Kiran too like her husband aspires to fill every nook of her film with perfection, which is why even Aamir had to audition to get a role in Dhobi Ghat.
Anticipation and anxiousness are running high on Dhobi Ghat ever since its promos were out. It is basking in the spotlight of fame and popularity primarily because of its unusual plot.
Kiran seems like an intelligent storyteller and is poised about debuting away from the mainstream masala flicks. Musical entertaining films have always been at the forefront of Bollywood But she is self-assured to start her career with a hatke genre film. Dhobi Ghat is the story of four individuals from varying backgrounds who’s lives coincide and intersect in the vast melting pot that is Mumbai. It stars Aamir, who also serves as producer, as a reclusive artist. Prateik Babbar, in his first major role, plays a washer boy Munna while the female leads are relatively unknown – singer Monica Dogra plays Indian-American banker Shai, and MTV Roadies alumnus Kriti Malhotra plays the married Yasmin.
Talking about the film, magical city Mumbai too comes across as the fifth character in the film. The buzzing traffic, the fast life of people, the energetic street life and the heavy and driving rains plays a pivotal role in the flick. In fact, the unseen side of this city of dreams is been showcased . Mumbai is a silent spectator here which observes each of those four characters mutely. The movie succeeds in connecting with the audience and audiences by and large are of the opinion that the movie will be a cult and prove to be a crafted piece of cinema.
The movie- goers are impressed by the unusual treatment given to the characters as the fragments of the characters’ experience — seen through a raw video diary, black and white photographic images and painting — form a portrait of Mumbai and its people bound together as they journey through longing, loneliness, loss and love, have pulled their senses off. Besides throwing light on the daily routine
of these characters, it shows an interesting blend of recent past and the present time skillfully. Also, this one’s a love story inherently; not a triangle, but a square. In fact, the story offers a peek into what goes in those four people’s daily life in a fictionalized account but still , Kiran’s characters feel, look and sound genuine, with which a common man can relate to.
Well, the music of the movie has already caught collective fancy and it seems that Academy Award winning Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla has yet another ace up his sleeve. He has beautifully put together the music of Dhobi Ghat with some intriguing sound tracks that have a classy touch to it. The music is quite in sync with the theme of the film and has an authentic rendering to it.
Kiran Rao and Cinematographer Tushar Kanti Ray have shot the film in a unique guerrilla style. With hand-held cameras and moving shots, it captures the real essence of this packed city. Generally, film-makers tries to film the scenes in the most picturesque place and scenic beauties but the unit of Dhobi Ghat rather chose some actual locations, from affluent and classy apartments to the slums, the movie confines the real life flavour.
Kiran has wholly and solely concentrated in bringing out the story of the film unlike those filmmakers who fill their movies with an overdose of masala and where style scores more than the script.
Kiran is a modern day avatar of accomplished storytellers like Mira Nair and Deepa Mehta. She professes an untamed passion to prove something. Purity, beauty, realistic portrayal of characters and powerful theme is the very essence of her debut film which will definitely leave the audience transfixed and is bound to create gold at the Box Office…

Dick Cheney

Dick Cheney
A new heart pump is keeping former vice president Dick Cheney alive, but one day it will present him with a difficult question: whether to seek a heart transplant.
"I haven't made a decision yet," Cheney said this morning on NBC's Todayshow. "The (heart pump) technology was originally developed to provide a transition. To take somebody who's reached the point where they needed a transplant but a transplant wouldn't immediately be available, so they put this in as a temporary measure."
The quality of the heart pumps has improved, Cheney said, and "we've gotten more and more experience with people living with this technology. So I'll have to make a decision at some point whether or not I want to go for a transplant. But we haven't addressed that yet."
Cheney explained to Todayhow his heart pump works:
Well, there's a system called the LVAD, Left Ventricular Assist Device. And it in effect takes blood from the ventricle chamber of your heart and moves it into your aorta. And it significantly increases the amount of blood flow you've got going, which is vital when you get to end stage heart failure.
It significantly improves the function in the kidneys and your liver because they get an adequate supply of blood. And I'd reached the point after 30 years and five heart attacks where I really needed to do something. And so that's what we did.
It's a pump that runs at about 9,000 RPMs. It's battery powered from the outside. But it's a wondrous device. It's really a miracle of modern technology. And now I'm here today because we have that kind of technology. And because the doctors were able to adapt it to my situation.

Bart Scott Interview

Bart Scott Interview
Bart Scott’s post game interview showed anger against Tom Brady and the news media Sunday. Bart Scott was angry thatthe news media, according the Jets star, gave his team negative coverage this season and consistent praises to the Patriots.
“It felt great, poetic justice” said Bart last night after the Jets’ win 28-21.
Scott contends that all the statistics showed the Jets were a better team this season, but the news media never reported that. “We knew we were a much better team. We came up to represent ourselves. We were — ripped off. We were coming back to show what kind of team we are, what type of defense, what type of chance we have.”
News reports of the Jets’ win Sunday were calling it an “upset”, a “shocker”, something that fumed Scott. “We get a lot slack. People gave us no chance we would make the playoffs. We are good football team.”
Bart Scott even contends the Jets are better than the Steelers.
“For all you non believers, disrespect us, talk cr–p about the defense, we arethird best defense in the league. All we ever hear about was their [Patriot's] defense, they can’t stop a nosebleed. 25th in league. And we didn’t want to be disrespected.”

Venus William's Short Dress

Venus William's Short Dress
Venus Williams wore what anyone would consider a short dress to the U.S. Open. Her dress got more attention than she did. The dress was not only short, but tattered and just ugly. No one doubts the talent of celebrity athlete Williams, but her fashion sense is another story.
The tennis great went to the court at the 2011 Australian Open wearing her self-designed dress that barely reached her thighs. According to Green Celebrity Network, "The Venus Williams short dress was on display in her first round match against Sara Errani. While Venus won the match fairly easily (6-3, 6-2), it was the Venus Williams short dress that garnered the attention of fans."
The dress was aqua blue, and was not the first time that Venus Williams has gotten attention for her skimpy attire. She wore a spaghetti-strapped corset once in a Florida match. At least people can't say Venus Williams isn't worth looking at even when she doesn't play well. As long as she's happy, what does it matter what everyone else thinks? Also, what does it matter who's laughing at her short, skimpy, ugly dress?
